April 2022

  • Chemplast Sanmar, Mettur, donated Rs 33.55 lakh, towards cost of construction material including steel for the COVID Care Centre at Salem.
  • Sanmar donated Rs. 15 lakh to the Tamilnad Kidney Research Foundation (TANKER) towards COVID related expenses including PPE, gloves and masks.
  • The Sanmar Group supported Sevalaya with Rs 5 lakh towards distributed of dry rations and bedding to over 1000 families that were affected by the unprecedented floods in Chennai.
  • Sanmar donated Rs. 2 lakh to the Children’s Garden School towards supporting children of the Ellen Sharma Nursery and Primary School.

  • The Sudaroli Social Service Trust which houses 100 inmates was given 2500 kg of rice and the Raghavendra Orphanage which has 15 boys and girls was given 1100 kg of rice by Chemplast Sanmar, Mettur.

  • Chemplast Sanmar donated medical and allied equipment worth Rs 2 lakhs, which included an Oxygen Concentrator, an ECG Machine, a Fetal Doppler, BP Apparatus, Stretchers, Computer, and Printer to the Santhai Thanaipatti Primary Health Centre.

  • Chemplast Sanmar, Mettur, constructed a shuttle court for the rural youth at the Panangadu village near Mettur, upon their request. The existing court in mud has been upgraded to a cement court at a cost of Rs. 1.5 lakhs.

  • May 2020 - Chemplast, Mettur contributed Rs. 5 Lakh to The District Collector, Salem for the purchase of Thermal Scanner at the district collectorate.
  • April 2020 - Chemplast made a contribution of Rs. 2 Lakh to the Head Quarters Government Hospital Mettur to purchase essentials like Masks and PPE Kits through the Sub-Collector, Salem.

    A mega medical camp was organized by Chemplast Sanmar on 16 February 2020 at the Vaidheeswara Higher Secondary School, Mettur, in collaboration with Sri Gokulam Hospitals, Salem for the benefit of the rural populace in and around thevillages of Mettur.

    April 2020 - Chemplast strengthens infrastructure at Mettur school

    Chemplast Sanmar has initiated several welfare schemes in schools in and around Mettur. Chemplast extended financial assistance to the tune of Rs 10 lakhs for improving infrastructure at schools and the payment was made to headmasters of schools and Anganwadi centres by Chemplast.

    July 2018 - Chemplast Sanmar Supports Government Initiative at Mettur

    Based on the request from the District Administration, Chemplast Sanmar sponsored one JCB excavator for a period of 55 days for desilting of the Stanley reservoir, the lifeline of the Cauvery delta farmers at a cost of Rs 2.11 lakhs. Initiated by the Government of Tamil Nadu, this desilting scheme engages farmers in lifting the silt from the day water spread area of the Mettur dam, free of cost. This desilting would increase the storage capacity of the reservoir as well.

    April 2018 - Mega Medical Camp Organised by Chemplast Mettur

    A mega medical camp was organised at Chemplast’s Vaidheeswara Higher Secondary School, Mettur, in collaboration with Sri Gokulam Hospital, Salem. The camp had a team of six specialists and fifty paramedical staff. Sixty-five volunteers 23 from Chemplast assisted in conducting the camp. Dr K Arthanari, Chairman, Sri Gokulam Hospital, supervised the proceedings. In all, 544 benefited from the camp. Blood glucose and Blood pressure were checked for 544, ECG for 441, and Echo Cardiogram was conducted on 115 beneficiaries. Those detected with heart ailment were referred to Gokulam Speciality Hospitals for further free treatment. Medicines were also distributed free of cost to the needy rural populace.

    Water Distribution

    Chemplast Sanmar provides 35 lakh litres of drinking water every day to villages around Mettur. The water has improved the lives of 12,000 families. In addition to the pipeline, Chemplast has built water tanks in partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu in the 'Namakku Naame' scheme. The Group has adopted the governing principle of not drawing any ground water in order to maintain the water table for the general community. Instead, the company uses desalinated seawater in its coastal plants, although the aquifer runs very close to the surface. This is part of the company's environmentally conscious water-management strategy.

    Mettur Dam Railway Station

    To benefit the citizens of Mettur and nearby localities, Chemplast Sanmar has built a new railway station with attendant facilities at Mettur Dam. Chemplast Sanmar has contributed Rs.6 crore for the construction of the new railway station at Mettur Dam with all modern facilities and conveniences for the public. This has immensely benefitted the local population.

    July 2017 - Specialised Ari, Zardosi and Hand Embroidery Training for Rural Women

    In addition to conducting training classes for women in tailoring over the last couple of years, Chemplast Mettur has been offering specialised 30-day training programmes in Ari, Zardosi and Hand Embroidery at Thangamapuripattinam and Kozhipannai centres. The training is conducted by a professional trainer from Salem.

    Aug 2017 - Chemplast Mettur Organises Career Guidance for School Students

    Planning the right career is challenging, more so for students residing in rural areas. Chemplast Mettur organised a career guidance programme for the students of class X and XII of Vaidheeswara Higher Secondary School and the Government High School Gonur and Kunchandiyur. Team of three from Don Bosco Vazhikatti a professional career guidance institute from Chennai, were engaged in counseling. 154 students from Standard XII and 391 from Standard X attended the programme. The topics covered motivation, memory techniques, multiple intelligence tests and focus group discussions. Career decision making and study techniques were addressed. Students were given information on different job oriented courses available, choosing the right institutions to study and employment opportunities in industries among other topics.

    April 2016 - Chemplast's training programme in English for rural students

    A training programme in Basic English and Grammar was conducted by Chemplast Mettur for students from rural backgrounds in Standard IX of Vaidheeswara Higher Secondary School. These students appeared for the SSLC public examination and have scored remarkably well in English – the lowest mark scored in the subject was 53 and highest 93, with an average of 74.6%. 16 students scored more than 80%. Out of the total 42 students who underwent training, 25 were from Tamil medium schools. In all, 29 students scored more than 400 marks out of 500. Chemplast's programme has not only helped the students to perform better in the exams but also given them the courage to speak in English in public as well.

    Evening Tuition Centres

    To enable rural students to compete with their urban counterparts and to prevent school dropouts, Chemplast Sanmar runs evening study centres in the villages near its plants at Mottur, Veeranur and Kozhipannai, situated around Mettur. These study centres are open on all days of the week except Sundays and classes are conducted for a couple of hours daily.

    Health Care

    Feb 2016 - Providing medical care to the rural populace

    Chemplast Sanmar every year conducts free medical camps for the villages located around Mettur. These medical camps provide free medical care and medicines to the rural populace around Mettur. Medical professionals, who are specialists in various disciplines, such as Neurology, Cardiology, Diabetes, Gynaecology and Paediatrics attend on the patients. Diagnostic tests such as blood sugar, ECG, ultrasound and scans are conducted free of cost. The Centres are located at Veeranur, Thangamapuripattinam, Panangadu and Mottur. Chemplast Sanmar enlists the services of experienced doctors who have a passion for Community Service.

    An awareness programme on eye infections and related injuries was organised by Chemplast Mettur on 27 December 2012 with Dr Arul Mozhi Varman from Agarwal Eye Hospital, Salem, lecturing on eye infections.

    A medical camp on asthma, allergy and respiratory diseases was conducted on 16 December 2012. Respiratory Physician Dr Krishnaveni spoke on asthma allergic related complications and preventive measures.

    About eight hundred people benefited from a free medical camp organised by Chemplast at Mettur. Doctors from Chemplast, Dr D Valaiparameswaran and Dr S Saravanan oversaw the camp that was conducted in coordination with Gokulam Hospitals, Salem, on 10 February 2013.

    March 2014 - Chemplast organises medical camp at Mettur

    A health camp was organised by Chemplast Mettur in coordination with Sri Gokulam Hospitals on 2 March 2014. Seven hundred and three persons underwent cardiac and diabetes tests and general screening at the camp. Dr Anish Sekar IAS, Sub Collector, Mettur, was present. Blood sugar, ECG and ECHO tests were also carried out. Free medicines were distributed.

    One hundred employees of Chemplast Sanmar Mettur volunteered to donate blood to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October this year.
