Chemplast Sanmar on Rs 100 crore green initiative corporate Bureau

Chennai Chemplast Sanmar on Wednesday said that the company has taken up a Rs 100-crore initiative to install an effluent treatment process at its Mettur plant. This would help the plant achieve the status of zero discharge of effluents. The process is expected to be completed by October 2007, a company release said.

Chemplast has finalized an order with a US multinational company that has a presence in India, for supply of an advanced reverse osmosis treatment plant, evaporator and crystalliser at an investment of Rs 26 crore.

The project will also help water conservation by recycling about 2,000 kilolitres a day, the release added.

Post implementation, the project involves an annual expenditure of Rs 4 crore towards power, chemical treatment and consumables.

Chemplast is also investing Rs 75 crore to convert the production process of caustic soda at its Mettur facility from a mercury-cell-based to a membrane-cell-based process, adhering to international standards.
